New Salt Lake City Shopping Destination features a retractable roof, an indoor creek, a pedestrian skybridge and two 18 foot waterfalls

Salt Lake City already has skiing, hiking, the mountains and Olympic-caliber sports venues.  Soon it will also have a one-of-a-kind shopping experience too.  Opening March 22, 2012, City Creek Center will be Utah’s newest retail and dining destination covering two downtown city blocks with a tempting mix of stores and restaurants.

Conveniently located in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City, the nearly 700,000-square-foot City Creek Center will feature a fully retractable glass roof over the retail galleria so visitors can enjoy the shopping center in any kind of weather. Guests can sail through winter shopping without slipping on ice or coating their shoes with salt thanks to a heated snow melt system located within the shopping center's main pedestrian concourse areas. The system sits beneath the walkways and melts ice and snow as soon as they touch the paver surface

The center has two 18-foot waterfalls and a 1,200-foot long re-creation of historic City Creek, the snow-fed stream that once coursed through Salt Lake City.  The creek will flow through the Center’s central walkways and plazas.

Three unique fountains from the designers of the Bellagio fountains in Las Vegas will delight and entertain Salt Lake City shoppers with musically choreographed animations using the elements of fire and water.

Shoppers will find Nordstrom, Macy’s and approximately 80 stores and restaurants in the shopping center — one third that are new to the market.

Sustainability:  The shopping center integrates sustainable design with both historic structures and new buildings. City Creek was built on the site of two former shopping malls, and more than 80 percent of the material from the former malls has been recycled or reused as part of an aggressive sustainability program.

Programs and Amenities:

Shopping is a top priority for travelers to the Salt Lake City area, so City Creek Center has developed several programs and amenities for tourists.

  • Concierge-style Customer Service Desk: The Customer Service desk will serve locals and out-of-towners alike with a convenient airline flight monitor, shopping center and area attraction information, the “IT” savings booklets, and more.
  • Hotel Packages: Hotels located near City Creek Center will offer “shop and stay” packages for tour operators, travel agencies and domestic and international travelers. Out-of-town guests receive extra savings with the “IT” savings booklet, special hotel rates, amenities and other perks.
  • Savings Booklet: City Creek Center’s “IT” savings booklet provides exclusive discounts and offers to shops and restaurants at the shopping center for tourists. Guests who live outside of a 50-mile radius of Salt Lake City need only show proof of residence at the Customer Service desk.
  • Friends and Family Program: Residents can bring a friend or family member (who lives outside of a 50-mile radius of Salt Lake City) to City Creek Center’s Customer Service desk to receive the IT savings booklet for themself and their guest, and one free admission to the local cultural amenity of their choice: the Leonardo, the Clark Planetarium, the Utah Museum of Fine Arts or the Natural History Museum of Utah.
